Functional Aspects:
S-100 protein is found in neuroectodermal tissue, including nerves and melanocytes, Langerhans cells in skin, and interdigitating reticulum cells in the paracortex of lymph nodes. VP-S275 is not recommended for staining neural elements, but stains almost all malignant melanomas. VP-S276 will identify S-100 in neural elements and other normal and uncharacterized tissues.
