Description
| PTL I binds with carbohydrate structures containing α-linked N-acetylgalactosamine. Lactose and other β-linked galactosides are poor inhibitors of binding. Tissue staining patterns using this lectin are clearly defined. Stratified squamous epithelium, endothelial cells, and underlying basement membranes of blood vessels are intensely stained with PTL I. Pancreatic zymogen granules are also strongly labeled with the lectin. Biotinylated PTL I has an appropriate number of biotins bound to provide the optimum staining characteristics for this lectin. This conjugate is supplied essentially free of unconjugated biotins and is preserved with sodium sodium azide. This biotinylated lectin is an ideal intermediate for examining glycoconjugates using the Biotin-Avidin/Streptavidin System. First the biotinylated lectin is added, followed by the VECTASTAIN® ABC Reagent, Avidin D conjugate, or streptavidin derivative. Inhibiting Sugar: 100 mM N-acetylgalactosamine |
