| Time course of KCa1.1 channel current amplitude upon application of several mycotoxins including Verruculogen. Current amplitude was reduced by 100 nM Paxilline (a), Penitrem A (b) and Verruculogen (c). The horizontal bars represent period of toxin perfusion. |

Verruculogen is a selective blocker of KCa1.1 (high-conductance Ca2+-activated K+, BK) channels. It belongs to a set of tremorgenic indole alkaloids which are lipid soluble and also include Pentrium A (#P-650) and Paxilline (#P-450).2 Verruculogen enhanced the electrically induced twitch contractions in guinea pig ileum, without influencing the contractions provoked by exogenous acetylcholine.1 Verruculogen had similar effects to Iberiotoxin (#RTI-400) in inhibiting the early Ca2+ dependent K+ current in CA1 pyramidal cells.3
