| The thymus regulates multiple functions. It is mainly responsible for the immune response. Besides this it also influences the central nervous system and the endocrinium by the secretion of single peptides like for example Thymulin or Thymosines alpha 1 and beta 4 . Thymulin is only active in the presence of zinc with which it forms a complex and acts on T-lymphocytes and there stem cells. The secretion of thymulin is regulated by the pituitary gland. |
