Protein kinase C gamma (PKC-gamma) belongs to the Protein kinase C family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases that can be activated by calcium and second messenger diacylglycerol. These kinases phosphorylate a wide range of cellular proteins and are known to be involved in diverse cellular signaling pathways. PKC-gamma is one of at least 12 different types of Protein kinase C identified in humans. PKC-gamma is expressed in neurons of brain and spinal cord.
