Legened: Superimposed traces of Nav1.2 channel current before (green) and during (black) application of 300 nM phrixotoxin-3. Current were elicited from holding potential -100 by voltage ramps of 35 ms to +60mV, delivered every 5 seconds. |
phrixotoxin-3 is a native peptidyl toxin isolated from the venom of the tarantula Phrixotrichus auratus. This toxin is highly specific and potent blocker for voltage-gated Na+ channels especially the neuronal channel Nav1.2 with properties similar to those of typical gating-modifier toxins, by causing a depolarizing shift in gating kinetics and by blocking the inward component of the sodium current.1
Injection of phrixotoxin-3 to mice caused neurotoxicity symptoms that expressed by general ataxia, lack of response to stimuli, and semiparalysis.1
Alomone Labs is pleased to offer Phrixotoxin-3, a natural native toxin purified to homogeneity from the venom of the tarantula Phrixotrichus auratus .
