Introduction:
Phagocytosis is a process that involves binding and internalization of pathogens, and it is essential for host defense in higher eukaryotes. Phagocytosis in mammals is mainly achieved by neutrophils, monocytes, and macrophages. Phagocytosis Analysis Kit is designed to provide a model system for quantitating the effects of drugs or other environmental factors on phagocytic function. The process of phagocytosis can be observed and quantities in human poly-nuclear cells and mouse macrophages by FITC labeled bacterial particles. This technique takes advantage of the detection ability of the intracellular fluorescence emitted by the engulfed particles, as well as the effective fluorescence quenching of the extra-cellular probe by trypan blue.
