Tryptophan Hydroxylase (TPH) belongs to the biopterin-dependent aromatic amino acid hydroxylase family. This enzyme catalyzes the first and rate limiting step in the biosynthesis of serotonin. Mutations in this gene have been implicated in a variety of disorders including depression, aggression and schizophrenia.
