Description (Long Description) :
Filensin is a lens-specific intermediate filament-like protein found in the beaded filament of ocular lens. Defects in this gene are the cause of autosomal recessive cortical juvenile-onset cataract. At least 2 isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
