Human IL-3 (Multi-CSF) is a 15-17 kDa glycosylated protein produced by activated T-lymphocytes and NK-cells. IL-3 stimulates the growth and differentiation of pluripotential hemapoietic stem cells that are progenitors of neutrophils, macrophages, megakaryocytes, erythrocytes, eosinophils, basophils, and mast cells. The actions of IL-3 on mature cells are the negative control of class II histocompatibility antigen induction on mast cells by IFN-gamma;, the enhancement of IL-8 induced histamine and PAF release by basophils, the enhancement of eosinophil functions, and the stimulation of phagocytosis by macrophages. IL-3 is used in combination with other hemapoietic factors such as G-CSF, M-CSF, GM-CSF or erythropoietin, to stimulate blood cell regeneration after bone marrow engraftment, chemotherapy, or irradiation. Finally, through its activation functions and eosinophils, IL-3 may be involved in allergic diseases./div
