Description
The uterus is the organ that produces menstruation and gestates the fetus and is located in the center of the pelvis, between the bladder and the rectum. The endometrium is the mucosa, consists of epithelium (is monolayer columnar has secretory cells and ciliated cells) and an intrinsic membrane (consisting of connective tissue which contain a large number of astrocytes, called stromal cells). Endometrial refers to the layer that constitutes the inner wall of a mammal's womb. The endometrium responds to both estrogen and progesterone, therefore, significant changes can occur with the sex cycle (estrus cycle, menstrual cycle). The endometrial is covered with mucosa, which consists of the mucous epithelium and the underlying layers. The mucosal epithelium is columnar epithelium, cubic epithelium, or stratified columnar epithelium. When epithelial secretion occurs, epithelial cells will grow and divide.
