PURITY: >95% by SDS-PAGE Endotoxin level is <0.1 ng per ug of BMP-13.

FORM: Lyophilized with no additives

RECONSTITUTION: Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute to 0.1-1.0 mg/ml in water containing BSA (50 ug BSA per 1 ug of protein). Further dilutions should be done in water and stored at 4oC for 1 week or -20oC for future use.

NOTE: Due to solubility reasons, the protein should be kept at low pH.

STORAGE CONDITIONS: The lyophilized protein is best-stored desiccated below 0oC. Reconstituted BMP-13 should be stored in working aliquots at -20oC.

BMPs (bone morphogenetic proteins) belong to the TGF-? superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. These ligands mediate numerous physiological processes. BMPs initiate, promote and maintain cartilage and bone development, growth, remodeling and repair, in both prenatal development and postnatal growth of eye, heart, kidney, skin, and other tissues. Expression of BMP-13 has been found in the hypertrophic chondrocytes of ossifying long bone centers. BioVision's recombinant human BMP-13/CDMP-2 is a 27 kDa homodimeric disulfide-linked protein consisting of two 120 amino acids polypeptide chains.

DESCRIPTION:

BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY: The ED50 as determined by its ability to induce alkaline phosphatase production by ATDC-5 chondrogenic cells is in the range of 2-3 ug/ml.
