Collagen Type I, Calf Skin Solubilized

Soluble from calf skin, Type I, Lyophilized.

Prepared according to the method of Gallop and Seifter (21).

In the method, fresh calf skin is extracted with 0.5 M NaOAc to remove non-collagen proteins. The soluble collagen is extracted with 0.075 M sodium citrate pH 3.7 and precipitated as fibrils by dialysis against 0.02 M Na₂HPO₄.

Soluble in 0.01 M to 0.5 M acetic acid, maximum 10 mg/ml.

Soluble calf skin collagen is suitable for gel formation and assay of collagenase.
