pCD58 antibody recognizes a 55-70KD membrane glycoprotein known as the lymphocyte function associated antigen-3 (LFA-3). CD58 antigen has wide distribution over many tissues, both hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, including leucocytes, erythrocytes, endothelial cells, epithelial cells and fibroblasts. There are two isoforms of CD58 antigen: a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)- anchor form and a transmembrane form. Both forms are expressed on the same cell type, and however, erythrocytes only have the GPI- anchored isoform. CD58 is the ligand for CD2, and functions as an adhesion molecule and mediates its signal through CD2, which is expressed on T cells and NK cells./p
