pCD52 antibody recognizes a 25-29 KD glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored single chain remarkably small glycoprotein, which is typically expressed at high levels on thymocytes, lymphocytes, NK cells, monocytes/macrophages at two percentage on some granulocytes, and epithelial cells of male reproductive tract and also expressed at variable on the majority of lymphoid malignancies, but not on erythrocytes and platelets. A somatic defect in the synthesis of GPI anchors (for example lymphocytes from patients with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH)) may cause lack of expressing CD52 antigen on cell surface. So, CD52 may be used as an index to diagnose PNH besides CD55, CD59. All CD52 antibodies are characterized by a strong lytic activity with human complement, irrespective of antibody isotype./p
