pCD44 antibody recognizes a 80-90kDa type I transmembrane highly glycosylated cell surface protein, also called phagocytic glycoprotein-1 (Pgp-1), which is the receptor for hyaluronic acid. CD44 antigen is widely expressed on most cell types including leukocytes, erythrocytes, endothelial cells and epithelial cells, but not on platelets. CD44 is involved in leukocyte attaching to and rolling on endothelial cells, homing to peripheral lymphoid organs and to sites of inflammation, and leukocyte aggregation./p
