CD147 stimulates adjacent fibroblasts to produce matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). CD147 is only present in vascular endothelium in non-neoplastic regions of the brain. Although present in tumor cells, CD147 is not expressed in proliferating blood vessels in malignant gliomas./p
