| Description: | Microbial beta-lactam receptors, or penicillin binding proteins consist of a range of proteins with differing functions, including transpeptidase, transglycosylase and carboxypeptidase activities. B.licheniformis BLA-R1 is a 68 kDa membrane protein with five trans-membrane domains. The extra-cellular C-terminal domain has a high affinity for antibiotics containing a beta-lactam ring. BLA-R1 acts as a signal transducer for beta-lactams and binding results in induction of beta-lactamase. |
