Biologic therapy monitoring: IDKmonitor® Adalimumab free ADA, ELISA

Chronic inflammatory diseases like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis
or psoriasis are often treated with anti-TNFa antibodies which target directly
the underlying inflammatory processes.
The clinical efficacy of an anti-TNFa therapy correlates with the trough level of the
therapeutic antibody, the drug level just before the next application of the anti-TNFa
antibody [1-3]. Several factors influence the trough level, among them dosage and
frequency of anti-TNFa blocker infusion, disease activity, individual pharmacokinetics
and immune reaction (formation anti-drug antibodies, ADA). It is thought that
ADA functionally neutralize the therapeutic antibodies or induce their rapid elimination
[3]. Consequences of ADA formation can be therapy failure and allergic reactions
during anti-TNFa antibody application [1, 5].
The IDKmonitor® Adalimumab free ADA ELISA for the detection of antibodies against
Adalimumab (e.g. HUMIRA®) measures free anti-Adalimumab antibodies. In combination
with the drug level determination of Adalimumab, the IDKmonitor® Adalimumab
free ADA ELISA is an opportunity for the treating physician to monitor and
optimize the therapy early on.
