Expression of Adrenergic b3 receptor in rat hippocampus |
![]() |
| Immunohistochemical staining of Adrenergic b3 receptor (green) in rat hippocampal dentate gyrus using Anti-Adrenergic b3 receptor antibody (#AAR-017) (green) (1:100). Adrenergic b3 receptor is strongly expressed in the hilus (H) and in the outer molecular layer (arrows). The distribution of Adrenergic b3 receptor overlapped the entire layers, not being restricted to nerve cells (stained red with mouse anti Parvalbumin). Blue is DAPI counterstain |
Adrenoceptors (also called Adrenergic receptors) are the receptors for the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline (called epinephrine and norepinephrine in the United States). Adrenaline and noradrenaline play important roles in the control of blood pressure, myocardial contractile rate and force, airway reactivity, and a variety of metabolic and central nervous system functions.
The Adrenoceptors are members of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily of membrane proteins. They share a common structure of seven putative transmembrane domains, an extracellular amino terminus, and a cytoplasmic carboxyl terminus. The Adrenoceptors are divided into three types: a1, a2 and b-Adrenoceptors. Each type is further divided into at least three subtypes: a1A, a1B, a1D, a2A, a2B, a2C, b1, b2, b3. 1,2 The Adrenoceptors are expressed in nearly all peripheral tissues and in the central nervous system.1,2
The b3-Adrenoceptor is insensitive to the commonly used b-antagonists and has often been referred to as the 'atypical' b-Adrenoceptor. Mouse b3-adrenoceptor has two known splice variants, isoforms b3a-Adrenoceptor and b3b-Adrenoceptor. Both isoforms are expressed in white and brown adipose tissues.3 The b3b-Adrenoceptor is highly exspressed in brain.
The b3- Adrenoceptor has been found to play a key role in the lipolytic action of catecholamines.4
Alomone Labs is pleased to offer a highly specific antibody directed against an extracellular epitope of the mouse b3-Adrenoceptors. The Anti-b3-Adrenoceptor (#AAR-017) can be used for Western blot analysis and Immunohistochemical applications. It has been designed to recognize both splice variants of b3-Adrenoceptor from mouse, rat and human samples.
