Expression of a1A-adrenoceptor in rat cerebellum |

Immunohistochemical staining of a1A-adrenoceptor in rat cerebellum using Anti-a1A-adrenoceptor (extracellular) antibody (#AAR-015) (1:100). A, a1A-adrenoceptor (green) appears in fibers of Bergmann glia (white triangle points at an example). B, S100beta (red), a marker of Bergmann glia, is stained in the same section. C, Merge of the images demonstrates expression of a1A-adrenoceptor in fibers of Bergmann glia. a1A-adrenoceptor also is expressed in cells in the molecular layer that are s100b negative (white arrow points at an example). Blue is a DAPI counterstain. |

Adrenoceptors (also called Adrenergic receptors) are the receptors for the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline (called epinephrine and norepinephrine in the United States). Adrenaline and noradrenaline play important roles in the control of blood pressure, myocardial contractile rate and force, airway reactivity, and a variety of metabolic and central nervous system functions.
The Adrenoceptors are members of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily of membrane proteins. They share a common structure of seven putative transmembrane domains, an extracellular amino terminus, and a cytoplasmic carboxyl terminus. The Adrenoceptors are divided into three types: a1, a2 and b adrenoceptors. Each type is further divided into at least three subtypes: a1A, a1B, a1D, a2A, a2B, a2C, b1, b2, b3.1,2
They are expressed in nearly all peripheral tissues and in the central nervous system.1,2
All a1-Adrenoceptors (a1-ARs)activate phospholipases C and A2.3
In addition to mobilizing intracellular calcium, the a1-ARs have also been shown to activate calcium influx via voltage-dependent and independent calcium channels.4
The a1A-ARs have at least nine known alternative spliced isoforms. They are the most abundant adrenergic receptor in the brain, and considered postsynaptic receptors. a1A-ARs are also expressed in heart, liver and prostate.
Alomone Labs is pleased to offer a highly specific antibody directed against an extracellular epitope of the human a1A-Adrenoceptors. The Anti- a1A-Adrenoceptors (#AAR-015) can be used for Western blot analysis and Immunohistochemical applications. It has been designed to recognize a1A-Adrenoceptors from human, rat and mouse samples.
